Born in ancient Persia the game of Horse Polo was considered a touchstone for testing the fitness and stamina of high ranking officials. An embodiment of sportsmanship and equestrian skill, polo has long been the traditional sport of the Indian nobility, since the medieval period. ‘Rajputs’ renowned for their chivalry and valour cherished the sport as a proving ground for their horsemanship and ability of young men and soldiers. Similar to Elephant polo, this game emanates royalty and tradition.
Herein, with a powerful stroke, a player drives the ball down the field. He along with his teammates gallops in pursuit, trying to avoid their opponents' attempts to stop their attack and gain possession of the ball. Bursts of speed, tight turns, bone-jarring contact, teamwork- is the essence of horse polo, one of the world's oldest and fastest games. Horse polo is a game of skill and tactics. In a Horse Polo match there are six ‘chukkers’ of 7½ minutes each. Due to the sheer speed at which this game is played, a player needs to change ponies after every ‘chukker’.
